It’s National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day! Even though its only three small ingredients, bread, butter, cheese, it’s proven to be the most popular comfort food IN THE WORLD!

The Ancient Romans were the first civilisation to make a cooked bread and cheese sandwich, but many cultures have invented their own take on the ancient dish. In France, people enjoy Croque Monsieur (a grilled ham and cheese sandwich) while in Switzerland it is customary to melt the cheese and toast the bread separately before combining them. The classic American grilled cheese sandwich emerged in the 1920s when inexpensive cheese and affordable sliced bread became available. It is now a staple in cafés, diners, and school cafeterias across the country.

To celebrate National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, we decided to test out our Eco Turbochef Oven against a traditional panini machine.

First up, we tried the traditional panini grill, which after five minutes, produced a rather squished looking toasted sandwich.

So we decided to up our grilled cheese game with the Eco Turbochef Small Oven with it’s single motor vertically circulating air impingement, top-launched microwave system and stirrer to help ensure even distribution of air and microwave. Screwfix head office in Yeovil required a new fryer urgently when their existing unit had failed them, IDS pulled out all the stops to supply and fit a new , Just in time for the Friday Fish & Chip day. Congratulations to IDS Apprentice Stephen Graham

Congratulations to IDS Apprentice Stephen Graham who recently passed his theory test towards his full driving license after 100 lessons and 10 failures.  Stephen said “I’m proud to have finally passed my theory.  Once I got the spelling of my name right and worked out how to display my age it was a doddle.  My aim now is to pass the practical test by Christmas 2020.  I’d like to thank my team @ IDS for all of their support”

Stephen is hoping that his success will inspire Office Manager Mike Smith to pass his theory test, especially as he’s approaching 40.

IDS @ Houno Showroom Opening

IDS were invited to the opening of Hounö’s new showroom at Middleby UK in Wigan recently.

After a tour of the Middleby product range, including Pitco and Turbo-Chef, I was treated to the most unbelievable steak using Southbend’s gas grill! A quick change and back to the demo kitchen where Hounö chefs Martin and Edwin cooked a four course meal comprising of Crispy Fish, Egg Benedict, Beef Wellington and a Brûlée desert all made using Hounö’s fantastic range of Combination Ovens. With complimentary wine on offer it was a very nice, informal evening chatting with other distributors.

Once again a big thank you to both Hounö and Middleby UK for their generosity and good company.

IDS Celebrate National Fish and Chip Day

On Friday 2nd June IDS celebrated National Fish and Chip Day with an open day at our Demo Kitchen. The fish was sourced from the excellent Smith Fish in Westbury-on-Trym (www.smithfish.co.uk) and the chips peeled by hand from willing helpers and staff. The food was cooked using our in-house Falcon and Lincat fryers, with the chips finished off in one of our Combination Ovens for that ‘triple-cooked’ taste.

‘Chef Dance’ perfected his technique and provided tasters throughout the day for happy staff and customers.

Ian Dance Services Ltd are now FCA authorised

 


 

Congratulations to IDS Managing Director Bruce Dance who is now approved under section 59 of the Financial Services and Markets Act (FSMA 2000), which in turn means that Ian Dance Services Ltd are now FCA authorised.

Ian Dance Services were recently the topic for a Case Study from Albert Goodman Chartered Accountants who managed to capture the essence of IDS in all its glory.

IDS visit Houno factory in Denmark

Bruce and myself were invited by Middleby UK to visit the Houno factory in Randers, Denmark recently. After a 40 minute journey from Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city, we arrived at the factory and were made to feel very welcome by our hosts.

Following a brief outline of the itinerary for the three days, and learning about Hygge (The Danish Way to Live Well), we were tasked with making our own dinner. The delegates were split into groups, with IDS responsible for the starter; Halibut with Roasted Cauliflower and a Cauliflower Puree with burnt butter sauce. Naturally we did a great job!

Our second day included a factory tour and further demonstrations on their Combination Ovens and the Visual Cooking range. Lunch was a Danish speciality called ‘Smorrebrod’ which are essentially open sandwiches – very nice they were too! In the evening we were treated to a fantastic meal at ‘No.1’, Randers premier restaurant which included a tuna appetiser, turbot starter and a delightful veal main course, the majority of which were cooked using the Houno ovens.

For our final day we were treated to a ‘Full English’ breakfast cooked by their in-house ‘Brummie’ chef before saying our goodbyes.

IDS would like to thank Middleby UK and Houno for a fantastic and worthwhile trip. Just to point out that we did learn about the ovens and the Houno family, and that it wasn’t all about the food!!
